Apple, which purchased Quattro Wireless in earlier this year, will be shutting down the service in favor of their iAd advertising platform for iPhones and iPads. While this is good news for some Quattro users who primarily develop or publish for iOS devices, it’s not the best news for others.
Unfortunately, this means we will also be discontinuing support for Quattro Wireless on the 17th of September 2010. However, Aduity users can easily switch to additional networks without much hassle or activate Aduity Express to make things easier.
Aduity as a company is still relatively new, however the ideas and roadmap behind the name have spanned over almost 2 years now. We have made phenomenal progress in terms of various trials we have run and the initial product we built.
However, as time passed, we started building something that 2 people could no longer scale as it became too complex to explain in one sentence. It was many things to many people. We tried to do too many things with one product.
We decided that it would be much easier to break all our major features into smaller products, building products that are really good at specific things. Especially since the mobile advertising market is so fragmented already.
Also, we took a look at changing some of our development methodologies at the same time. We opted for shorter release schedules which meant we could focus on developing an MVP (Minimum Viable Product) for each product and iterate there after.
Fortunately, we have a very solid architecture which allowed us to implement the idea of different “apps” on one platform without making too many changes.
The first thing we did, which Matt was rather insistant about, was switch to Git (from SVN) for all our source code version control. It was the best decision as it has improved our work flow, along with deploying of code, dramatically.
The second thing we did was intensify our recruitment of talented developers and designers. We needed to move faster and since we were pivoting, new developers could get stuck right away on new projects. We had Walther join us in July and Stephen this month, but more on them later.
We already launched our first MVP, Aduity Mediation, within 30 days. We have pushed several iterations since then, including the beta version of Aduity Express (more info soon). Before our 60 days are up we will also be launching Aduity SMS, and it is something we are quite excited about.
The important thing about pivoting is not to change your core business and ideas, but rather to utilize the pivot for reaching a better product and market fit.
It has been a great way to reboot our motivation and productivity. However, the most important thing is that we have re-aligned ourselves to ensure we are still on track to achieve our goals and ultimately the initial vision.
The mobile internet in China is more popular than in the United States according to this article from The Nielsen Company. A good read with some insight and statistics as well.
Another of Opera’s insightful reports based on the traffic and reach of their mobile browser called Opera Mini. In this June report, the spotlight is on the tremendous growth in Africa.
Particular emphasis is placed on the mobile ad market (as smartphones and tablet PCs revolutionize how people access the Internet) with Zenith predicting it will grow 43.2% on average, year on year, between 2009 and 2012. That’s a huge growth, and it even outstrips the predicted increase in social media ad spends—30.2% for the same period. Of course, increased smart device use is also strongly linked with increased use of social media systems (particularly with the new vogue for location-based social gaming).
We are proud to announce our latest product called Aduity Mediation, a mobile ad network mediation layer for mobile publishers and developers.
Aduity Mediation was born out of Aduity’s original Network Ads feature found our Preview version, which was open to selected publishers and MobilePress users.
We have now made this popular feature an openly available product. It is the first product which fits in with our new development ethos of building simple and powerful applications with agile and iterative development methodologies.
Aduity Mediation currently supports mobile sites and we are working on releasing SDKs for various mobile application platforms soon. Our mediation layer currently supports the following mobile ad networks, AdMob, BuzzCity, Google AdSense of Mobile, InMobi, QuattroWireless and ZestADZ with more on the way.
If you have a mobile site and use any of the mobile ad networks above, then sign up and join us on building a really exciting and innovative product.
